About Chiropterotriton orculus (Cope, 1865)

Chiropterotriton orculus, commonly called the Chignahuapan splayfoot salamander and also known as Cope's flat-footed salamander, is a species of salamander belonging to the family Plethodontidae. This species is endemic to Mexico, where it occurs along the southern and eastern margins of the Mexican Plateau, ranging from northern Morelos to northern Puebla. It was removed from the synonymy of Chiropterotriton chiropterus in 1994, and there may be additional undescribed species within this species complex. Its natural habitats are pine-oak forests and fir forests, and it can tolerate a moderate degree of habitat modification. It is a relatively common terrestrial species.
