About Chionodes discoocellella (Chambers, 1872)

Chionodes discoocellella, commonly known as the eyeringed chionodes moth, is a species of moth belonging to the family Gelechiidae. It is found in the United States, with recorded occurrences ranging from Maine to South Dakota, and also including Florida, Texas, and Colorado. Its forewings are brown, with a roseate or purple tint. They are faintly streaked with ocherous along the inner margin, and feature a yellowish-white spot with a black central dot at the end of the disc, a small black spot on the fold, and another small black spot near the middle of the wing. A few small ocherous-yellow spots also sit around the apex between the nervules. The larvae of this moth feed on Fallopia convolvulus, Persicaria chinensis, Persicaria pensylvanica, Persicaria punctata, and Rumex crispus.
