About Chionodes dentella (Busck, 1903)
Chionodes dentella is a species of moth that belongs to the family Gelechiidae. This moth is found in North America, and confirmed records of its presence come from the US states of Texas, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, California, Mississippi, and Florida. Adults of this species have a wingspan of 9 to 10 millimeters. The forewings have a distinct black and yellowish-white pattern: the costal half of the forewing, from the wing base to two-fifths of the wing length from the apex, is black. The entire apical two-fifths of the wing is also black, with the exception of two small, opposite yellowish-white spots, one on the costa and one on the dorsum. From the wing base to the apical two-fifths, the dorsal half of the forewing is yellowish white. This yellowish-white section projects upward to the costal edge at the apical two-fifths, and has a second smaller projection into the black costal area at the basal third of the wing. The hindwings of Chionodes dentella are light yellowish grey.
