About Chiloscyllium punctatum Müller & Henle, 1838
Chiloscyllium punctatum Müller & Henle, 1838, commonly known as the brownbanded bamboo shark, is a bamboo shark species belonging to the family Hemiscylliidae. This species is found in the Indo-West Pacific, ranging from Japan to northern Australia, between the latitudes of 34° N and 26° S. It is regularly bred in public aquaria, and is widely considered one of the shark species most suited to captivity. This is due to its docile disposition, sedentary nature, and relatively small adult size. Individuals of this species can live up to 25 years in public aquariums. In the wild, brownbanded bamboo sharks live around coral reefs and tide pools, and can be found at depths down to 85 metres (279 ft). This shark reproduces via oviparity.
