About Chilacis typhae (Perris, 1857)

Chilacis typhae, commonly known as the bulrush bug, is a species of true bug belonging to the family Artheneidae. This species is distributed across Europe, Northern Asia (excluding China), and North America. It is typically associated with greater reedmace and Typha angustifolia. Between spring and autumn, adult bulrush bugs can be found mating on the seed heads of these plants. The bugs often spend the winter inside these same seed heads. In some cases, Chilacis typhae can occur in very large numbers, with over 1000 individuals recorded within a single seed head.
