This species is the sea snail Chicoreus brunneus, first described by Link in 1807. Adult shells of this species range in length from 25 mm to 115 mm. This sea snail has a wide distribution across the Indo-West Pacific, occurring across a range stretching from East Africa to Polynesia, and also found in southern Japan, New South Wales (Australia), and New Caledonia.
