About Cherax cainii Austin & Ryan, 2002

Cherax cainii, commonly called the smooth marron, is one of the two marron crayfish species endemic to southwestern Australia. It can grow to over 380 millimetres in length. Its native range spans from the Hutt River in the northwest to Esperance in the southeast of Western Australia. This species can now also be found in a variety of natural and artificial freshwater bodies across Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, and New South Wales in Australia. It has also been introduced to North America, Chile, South Africa, Zambia, Japan, and New Zealand through commercial aquaculture projects.
