About Chelone lyonii Pursh
Chelone lyonii, commonly known as pink turtlehead or Lyon's shell flower, is a flowering plant species belonging to the family Plantaginaceae. It is native to wet habitats in the southern Appalachian Mountains of the United States. This is a deer-tolerant perennial plant that is hardy in USDA zones 3 through 8. It is recommended for shady, wet growing conditions, though it can also tolerate full sun. Both the unimproved species and several cultivars are available commercially; common commercially sold cultivars include 'Hot Lips' and 'Pink Temptation'. The cultivar 'Armitpp02' is sold under the trade name Tiny Tortuga.
