About Cheiracanthium erraticum (Walckenaer, 1802)
Cheiracanthium erraticum (Walckenaer, 1802) is a spider with distinct body size differences between sexes: females measure 8–9 mm (0.31–0.35 in) in body length, while males measure 5–6.5 mm (0.20–0.26 in). This species has distinctive markings: a wide dark red stripe runs down the center of its abdomen, which is surrounded by creamy-yellow tissue, and its head is reddish brown. This spider has a Palearctic distribution, ranging from Ireland to east Asia. It favors the herbaceous and low bush layers of open habitats like rough heather. In Britain, it occurs at altitudes from sea level up to 700 m.
