About Cheilosia pagana (Meigen, 1822)

Scientific name: Cheilosia pagana (Meigen, 1822)

Description: For terminology, see Morphology of Diptera. Wing length ranges from 4.75 to 8.5 mm. The third segment of the antennae is clear orange, very large, and has no furrow. In males, the frons is flat. Thoracic pubescence is variable. The female scutellum is entirely black. Legs are partially yellow. On the first tarsus, the central segments are pale. This species is part of the pagana species group.

Distribution: Present across most of Europe, the eastern Palearctic realm extending east to Siberia, and the Nearctic realm.
