About Cheilosia impressa (Loew, 1840)

For terminology used in this description, refer to Morphology of Diptera. Cheilosia impressa has a wing length ranging from 5.75 to 8 mm. It is a broadly built species. Its thorax is coarsely punctate, shining, and lacks dusting. The legs are black, and the wing base is yellow. The first coxa has a hornlike projection on its outer side at the base. The facial knob of this species is rounded. Cheilosia impressa is part of the impressa species group. The larva of this species was illustrated by Schmid in 1999. Cheilosia impressa is distributed across most of Europe and the eastern Palearctic realm, ranging east as far as Siberia.
