About Cheilosia albitarsis Meigen, 1822
This species is a large, broadly-built member of the Cheilosia genus, with a wing length ranging from 7 to 9.5 mm. In males, the dorsum of the thorax is covered with black hairs; the fifth tarsomere of the first tarsus is square-shaped; and the second tergite has antero-lateral black hairs. In females, the middle tarsomeres of the first tarsus are pale in color; the mouth margin does not protrude downwards; and the length of the hairs on the arista is equal to the diameter of the arista itself. See references for species determination. The larva of this species is illustrated in Rotheray (1993). This species is distributed throughout the Palearctic region.
