This species, commonly known as the floral wrasse, has a mottled body marked with sand-colored spots, and reaches an approximate length of 13 inches. Floral wrasses inhabit lagoon and coastal reefs, found at depths ranging from 1 to 30 meters. The distribution of the floral wrasse extends from the West Indian Ocean to the central and western Pacific Ocean.
