About Cheilanthes austrotenuifolia H.Quirk & T.C.Chambers
Cheilanthes austrotenuifolia H.Quirk & T.C.Chambers is a species of Australian rock fern that belongs to the family Pteridaceae. This species was once a common understory plant growing along streams in the moist regions of Southern Australia. While Cheilanthes austrotenuifolia remains quite widespread in remnant bushland, including areas of the Adelaide Hills, it has been significantly impacted by land clearance and competition from invasive species. Bright green fronds grow from an underground rhizome. The plant spreads both through division of this rhizome, and via spores held on the undersides of the fronds. Its fronds die back during summer, and regrow with autumn rains. Propagating this plant from spores is very difficult, but propagation can be done more easily using sections of its rhizome.
