About Charaxes candiope (Godart, 1824)
Charaxes candiope (Godart, 1824) has a wingspan of 45–55 mm in males and 50–60 mm in females. The basic colour of the upperside of the wings is tawny or orange tawny, with a slightly paler or pale ochre yellow basal area. The unscaled veins and the costal edge of the forewing are green. The hindwings have a submarginal black band that contains a series of tawny ochreous or whitish interstitial spots. The undersides of the forewings are clayish and slightly ochreous, while the hindwings are sepia in colour. Forewings are rather falcate, and the hindwings have two small tails that protrude from the lower edge. A full description of this species was published by Walter Rothschild and Karl Jordan in 1900 in Novitates Zoologicae volume 7:287-524, starting at page 364. Explanation of terms used can be found in Novitates Zoologicae volume 5:545-601. This species occurs in most of the Afrotropical realm, which covers Sub-Saharan Africa.
