About Chara globularis Thuill.

Chara globularis is a species of charophyte green algae that belongs to the family Characeae. It is native to Europe and now has a widespread distribution across the globe. This species grows in both fresh and brackish water environments. The originally documented Chara globularis was classified as the short-end segment (SH) type, which has a black fossa wall marked by a granulate, papillate, or fine pusticular pattern. An elongate-end (EL) type was once thought to be part of this same species. However, re-examination found that the EL type is phylogenetically distinct from C. globularis, meaning it represents a separate species. As a result, the EL type has been reclassified as Chara leptospira.
