About Chamaenerion fleischeri (Hochst.) Fritsch
Chamaenerion fleischeri is a scapose hemicryptophyte. Its overwintering buds sit just below the soil surface, and its floral axis is more or less erect with only a few leaves. This plant grows to an average height of 10โ40 centimetres (3.9โ15.7 inches). It has an erect stem, and its leaves are usually glabrous and toothed. This species is quite similar to Chamaenerion dodonaei, but C. dodonaei grows much taller and has bristly leaves. Chamaenerion fleischeri produces fragrant flowers that have four pointed, thin, dark purple sepals and four bright pink, ovate petals. Its flowering period runs from late June to August. This plant is endemic to the Alps, where it occurs in France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and Austria. It grows in clusters on moraines, in glaciers, among stone piles, and in alluvial deposits. It prefers siliceous soils, and grows at altitudes between 600 and 2,700 metres (2,000โ8,900 ft) above sea level.
