About Chamaecrista mimosoides (L.) Greene

Chamaecrista mimosoides (L.) Greene has several common names, including fish-bone cassia, Japanese tea, and tea senna. It can grow as an annual plant, perennial plant, or subshrub, and occurs mainly in seasonally dry tropical regions. This species is locally common on sandy soils. Its stem is pithy, woody at the base, and either glabrous or sparsely hairy. It is native to Tropical and Southern Africa, with its distribution extending through Tropical Asia to Northern Australia. In India, the root of Chamaecrista mimosoides is traditionally used to treat diarrhea and stomach spasms. Powdered leaves from the plant are used to dress wounds and sores, and also to manage mouth ulcers, stomach spasms, and headaches.
