About Chalcosyrphus metallicus (Wiedemann, 1830)

Chalcosyrphus (Xylotomima) metallicus (Wiedemann, 1830), commonly called the Yellow-legged Leafwalker, is an uncommon species of syrphid fly. It has been observed in the southeastern United States. This species is a type of hoverfly, a group of flies capable of staying nearly motionless during flight. Adult hoverflies of this species are also known as flower flies, because they are commonly found around and on flowers. They get energy-giving nectar and protein-rich pollen from these flowers.
