About Chalcosyrphus libo (Walker, 1849)

Chalcosyrphus (Xylotomima) libo, originally published as (Walker, 1849), is commonly called the Long-haired Leafwalker. This is an uncommon species of syrphid fly, observed in north-central North America. Syrphid flies are also known as hoverflies, and these insects are able to stay nearly completely motionless while in flight. Adult hoverflies are often referred to as flower flies, because they are frequently found around and on flowers. They get energy-giving nectar and protein-rich pollen from these flowers. This species has been recorded in Canada and the United States.
