About Chaimarrornis leucocephalus (Vigors, 1831)

Both male and female Chaimarrornis leucocephalus have black bodies, red underparts, and a white crown on the head. Males have a larger white patch on the top of the head, plus brown or red spots under the wings. This species is found in the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and some adjacent adjacent adjoining areas; its confirmed range covers Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Tajikistan, Thailand, Tibet, and Vietnam. Its natural habitat is temperate forests. This species was previously classified in the monotypic genus Chaimarrornis, but a 2010 molecular phylogenetic study resulted in its reclassification to the genus Phoenicurus.
