About Chaetogastra grossa (L.fil.) P.J.F.Guim. & Michelang.
Chaetogastra grossa (L.fil.) P.J.F.Guim. & Michelang. is a species that grows as a small tree or shrub, reaching 6 feet to 16 feet in height. It has dark green fuzzy leaves with prominent parallel veining. The petiole is 5 to 10 mm long. The thick leaf blade is elliptical or ovate-elliptical, 5 to 6 cm long by 1 to 3 cm wide, with an acute apex and an obtuse or rounded base. It blooms year-round, producing bright to dark red flowers that reach about 3 inches in size. Inflorescences are few-flowered and form at the ends of branches and twigs. It develops brown capsule fruits that contain several tiny seeds. This species prefers cooler climates, but cannot tolerate frost, and grows best in full sun to partial shade. It is uncommon in cultivation.
