The three-striped butterflyfish, whose scientific name is Chaetodon tricinctus Waite, 1901, is a species of marine ray-finned fish. It is classified as a butterflyfish within the family Chaetodontidae. This species is native to eastern Australia, Lord Howe Island, and Norfolk Island, which are all located in the Tasman Sea. It lives at depths between 3 and 15 metres (9.8 to 49.2 ft), and its typical habitats are coral-rich lagoons and outer reefs. This species can grow to a maximum total length of 15 centimetres, or 5.9 inches.
