About Chaenostoma cordatum Benth.

Chaenostoma cordatum Benth. has several other common and botanical synonyms: Sutera cordata, Bacopa cordata, Sutera diffusus, and Pikmin flower. It is also commonly referred to simply as Bacopa, though this name should not be confused with the separate plant genus Bacopa. This species is one of 52 species that make up the genus Chaenostoma, which belongs to the family Scrophulariaceae, and it is native to South Africa. In its native range, Chaenostoma cordatum occurs predominantly along the southern coast of South Africa. In cultivation, it is a short-lived evergreen perennial suitable for USDA hardiness zones 9 through 11. In colder climates, it is grown as an annual plant. It requires full sun to produce a profusion of flowers. Known registered cultivars of this species are 'Bridal Showers', 'Snowflake', 'Giant Snowflake', and 'Pink Domino'.
