About Ceroglossus chilensis (Eschscholtz, 1829)
Ceroglossus chilensis reaches an adult body length of approximately 25 to 32 millimeters (0.98 to 1.26 inches). This species displays distinct sexual dimorphism: males have a wider proepisternum than females, while females have wider abdominal sternites. These beetles also exhibit chromatic polymorphism, substantial genetic variation, and morphological variability in both shape and size, which differs across subspecies and populations. Their body color may be metallic green, brown, reddish, or bluish. This species is found in Chile, where it is the most widespread member of the genus Ceroglossus. It primarily inhabits native forests, surrounding exotic plantations, and Pinus radiata plantations.
