About Cerithidea obtusa (Lamarck, 1822)
Cerithidea obtusa is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk that belongs to the family Potamididae. This species is commonly called the Obtuse Horn Shell, and is also known as Mud Creeper. It is a relatively common snail that inhabits muddy coastal areas. Adults of this species grow to around 5 to 6 centimeters in length. It is used as food in Southeast Asia. In the region, it goes by multiple local names: Belitung and Siput Sedut in Malay, Hoi Joob Jaeng (Thai: หอยจุ๊บแจง), and Ốc Len in Vietnamese. Many people in Southeast Asia eat this mud creeper as a dish, and consumption is particularly common in Malaysia, southern Thailand, certain parts of Indonesia, and Vietnam.
