About Ceratostigma plumbaginoides Bunge
Ceratostigma plumbaginoides Bunge is a mat-forming herbaceous perennial that grows 50 cm (20 in) tall and wide. It produces small ovoid leaves and bright blue flowers in late summer and early autumn. Its leaves may turn red or purple before dropping. This species is native to eastern China, occurring specifically in Beijing and the provinces of Henan, Jiangsu, Shanxi, and Zhejiang. It typically grows in rocky areas, most often in foothills. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant for temperate climates, valued for its bright late-season color. It is hardy down to −10 °C (14 °F) and grows best in a sunny, sheltered position with moist, well-drained soil. Since it can become invasive, it is especially well-suited for growing in containers or crevices in dry stone walls. It has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
