About Ceratophrys cranwelli Barrio, 1980

The back of Ceratophrys cranwelli is usually colored dark green and brown. However, albino variants that show orange and yellow coloration also exist, and these variants are popular in the pet trade. The species' dark color pattern helps it camouflage when it burrows and waits to ambush prey. While C. cranwelli is generally inactive, it is an aggressive eater that can leap distances equal to several of its own body lengths to capture prey. It uses a sticky tongue to latch onto prey, and relies on its heavy body to stay anchored while consuming the captured prey.
