About Ceratogyrus darlingi Pocock, 1897

Ceratogyrus darlingi was first described by Pocock in 1897. It is a member of the theraphosid spider family, and is commonly known as the burst horned baboon tarantula or the African rear-horned baboon tarantula. It has an accepted synonym, Ceratogyrus bechuanicus. This spider is native to southern Africa, found primarily in Botswana and Lesotho. Adult individuals reach a body length of about 5 inches, or 130 mm. Their base color ranges from ash-gray and mud-brown to black. A distinct black foveal horn is present on the peltidium of this species.
