About Cephalaria gigantea (Ledeb.) Bobrov
Cephalaria gigantea, also known by the scientific synonym Scabiosa gigantea, has the common names giant scabious and yellow scabious. It is a species of flowering plant that belongs to the honeysuckle plant family, Caprifoliaceae. This species is native to the Caucasus region — including Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan — and Turkey, and it is grown as an ornamental plant. It is an erect deciduous perennial, and produces pale yellow, ruffled flower heads during the summer. The flowers of this species look similar to the flowers of closely related scabious plants. Cephalaria gigantea can grow up to 2.5 m (8.2 ft) tall, and it may need to be staked when grown in more exposed locations. Its diploid chromosome number is 10, written as 2n = 10.
