About Centrostephanus rodgersii (A.Agassiz, 1864)

Centrostephanus rodgersii is a large, dark purple sea urchin that bears long, slender spines which show a green tinge when reflecting light. Its shell may have a reddish color. This species occurs in northeastern New Zealand and southeastern Australia. It was first recorded in New Zealand in 1897, from a specimen held at the Colonial Museum, and is considered native to New Zealand.
