About Centropus nigrorufus (Cuvier, 1816)

Centropus nigrorufus, first described by Cuvier in 1816, is commonly called the Sunda coucal, and is also known by the alternate common name Javanese lathe. It is a species of cuckoo in the Cuculidae family, and it is endemic to the island of Java, Indonesia. Its natural habitats include mangroves, freshwater swamp forests, and grasslands located close to brackish water. This species has been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List since 1994, because its already small population faces threats from habitat destruction and trapping. Its diet consists of grasshoppers, ground beetles, moths, geckos, snakes, and frogs. It has also been observed foraging for rice seeds in paddy fields.
