About Centriscus scutatus Linnaeus, 1758
Centriscus scutatus is a slender fish that can grow up to 15 centimeters (5.9 inches) in length. It occurs at depths ranging from 2 to 333 meters, and is most commonly found between 2 and 15 meters deep. Its distribution covers the Indian and Pacific oceans, ranging from the Red Sea and Persian Gulf to Japan, New Caledonia, and Australia. This coastal species lives on mud or silty sand substrates adjacent to sea grasses or corals. It generally swims almost vertically with its head pointed downward, sometimes forms large groups, and feeds on small crustaceans.
