About Cenchrus setigerus Vahl

Cenchrus setigerus Vahl (common name birdwood grass, synonym Pennisetum setigerum) is a species belonging to the grass family Poaceae. It is native to drier regions of Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, Iran, India, and extends as far east as Myanmar. It has also been introduced to the United States, Brazil, and Australia. This species is drought-tolerant and quite palatable to livestock, making it a valuable source of fodder and forage in areas that receive as little as 200 mm of rain per year, although it has low productivity.
