About Cecropia obtusifolia Bertol.

Cecropia obtusifolia Bertol. is a plant species belonging to the family Urticaceae. Its natural range covers Colombia, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, and Panama. It goes by a number of common names: blunt-leaved trumpet tree, pop-a-gun, tree-of-laziness, and snakewood tree. In Central America, it is commonly called Guarumo. While it can appear striking when silhouetted against the sky, it is classed as an invasive species on the Hawaiian Islands. This species is used in traditional Amerindian medicine. Many other species in the Cecropia genus also share the folk reputation of treating heart failure, cough, asthma, and bronchitis. Cecropia obtusifolia exhibits vasorelaxant activity, which may be caused by the inhibition of angiotensin.
