About Ceanothus perplexans Trel.
Ceanothus perplexans Trel. is an evergreen shrub that typically reaches 1 to 3 meters in height. It has spreading, intricately branched stems. Its small, thick, leathery oppositely arranged leaves are a defining feature; the distinct cupped shape of its leaves inspired the plant's common name. In spring, this species produces clusters of white or pale blue flowers. Ceanothus perplexans occurs in chaparral and desert scrub communities across the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It grows on dry, rocky slopes and in canyons, at elevations ranging from 300 to 2100 meters.
