About Caulerpa cylindracea Sonder, 1845

Caulerpa cylindracea is a species of green algal seaweed that belongs to the Caulerpaceae family. This species is native to Australian coastlines, covering a broad range along Western Australia. Its native range extends from the area around Perth, north through the Mid West and Pilbara regions, all the way to the Kimberley region of Western Australia. In the early 1990s, Caulerpa cylindracea was accidentally introduced to the Mediterranean Sea. It has since spread widely across the region, and is classified as an invasive species there. It is also recognized as an invasive species in South Australia, where it can overgrow native species and out-compete them for resources.
