Catunaregam spinosa, commonly called mountain pomegranate, is a flowering plant belonging to the Rubiaceae family. It is native to South Asia and other regions across Asia. Almost all parts of this species are used as traditional medicine in the Ayurvedic system, and its fruits are reported to be used both for medicinal purposes and as food. Chemical analysis has detected various classes of compounds in the plant, including flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, lignans, terpenoids, and volatile oils. Multiple studies have identified a range of modern pharmaceutical activities for C. spinosa: piscicidal, molluscicidal, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, and antihyperlipidemic activities.
