About Catoptria verellus Zincken, 1917
Catoptria verellus, described by Zincken in 1917, is a moth species that belongs to the family Crambidae. This species is found across Europe. Its wingspan measures between 17 and 18 millimeters. The forewings are brown, with a diffuse mixing of blackish coloring that does not extend to the veins or the area toward the costa. The anterior half of the costa is white. An undefined white median streak extends from the base of the forewing, and becomes obsolete shortly after. The second line is white, strongly curved, interrupted above the middle, and indented near the dorsum; a diagonal white wedge sits just before this indentation. The cilia are a somewhat metallic grey, marked with three or four thin white bars. The hindwings are a pale light grey. This moth is active during flight from July to August, with timing varying by location. The larvae feed on mosses growing on old apple (Malus), plum (Prunus), and poplar (Populus) trees.
