Catocala nymphaea is a moth species belonging to the family Erebidae. It was first described by Eugenius Johann Christoph Esper in 1787. This species can be found in southern France, Austria, Albania, Portugal, Croatia, Italy, Greece, Corsica, Sicily, Crete, North Africa, Anatolia, Afghanistan, and Kashmir. Its wingspan measures 54 to 62 millimetres, which equals 2.1 to 2.4 inches. Depending on their location, adult moths are active in flight from July to August. The larvae of Catocala nymphaea feed on Quercus ilex.
