About Catocala nuptialis Walker
Catocala nuptialis, commonly called the married underwing, is a moth species that belongs to the family Erebidae. This species was first formally described by Francis Walker in 1858. It is distributed in North America, ranging from Manitoba southward through Minnesota and Nebraska to eastern Oklahoma and Texas, and extending east to Kentucky and Illinois. The wingspan of adult married underwings measures between 40 and 50 millimeters. Adult moths are active from June to September, with the timing varying based on their location. There is thought to be one generation of this species per year. The larvae of Catocala nuptialis feed on Amorpha canescens.
