About Catocala nebulosa Edwards, 1864

Catocala nebulosa, commonly known as the clouded underwing, is a moth species belonging to the family Erebidae. It was first formally described by William Henry Edwards in 1864. This moth is distributed in North America, with a range extending from southern Ontario southward through Tennessee to Florida, westward to Texas and eastern Oklahoma, and northward to Iowa, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. The wingspan of adult Catocala nebulosa measures between 75 and 86 mm. Depending on their location, adults are active in flight from July to September. The species likely produces only one generation per year. The larvae of Catocala nebulosa feed on Carya cordiformis and Juglans nigra.
