About Catocala meskei Grote, 1873

Catocala meskei, commonly known as Meske's underwing, is a moth species belonging to the family Erebidae. This species was first formally described by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1873. Its range in North America extends from Maine and Quebec westward to southern Alberta and Montana. In the eastern part of its distribution, it reaches as far south as South Carolina, and it has been recorded at least as far south as Montana in the west. The wingspan of adult Catocala meskei measures between 65 and 75 mm. Adults are active on the wing from July to September, with the timing of this activity varying by location. The larvae of this species feed on plant species from the genera Populus and Salix.
