About Catocala lacrymosa Guenée, 1852

Catocala lacrymosa, commonly known as the tearful underwing, is a species of moth in the family Erebidae. This moth has a documented range that extends from Massachusetts and Connecticut south to Florida, west to Texas and eastern Oklahoma, north to Illinois and Michigan, and also into southern Ontario. The wingspan of adult Catocala lacrymosa measures between 60 and 82 mm. Adult moths are active from July to September, with the exact timing varying based on location. The species produces one generation per year. The larvae of Catocala lacrymosa feed on plants from the Carya genus.
