About Catocala desdemona H.Edwards, 1882

Catocala desdemona, commonly known as the Desdemona underwing, is a species of moth in the family Erebidae. This species was first formally described by Henry Edwards in 1882. It is distributed in Utah and Arizona in the United States, with its range extending south into New Mexico and Texas, and continuing south through Mexico to Honduras. Previously, it was classified as a subspecies of Catocala delilah. The wingspan of adult Catocala desdemona measures 60 to 65 mm. Depending on location, adult moths are active in flight from May to June. Most likely, this species produces only one generation per year. The larvae of Catocala desdemona feed on Quercus gambeli, Quercus macrocarpus, and Salix species.
