About Catasetum maculatum Kunth

Catasetum maculatum, commonly known as the spotted catasetum, is an orchid species native to the range extending from Central America to Venezuela. This species produces dimorphic flowers: male and female flowers look so distinct that they were originally classified as two separate species. A few days after the male flowers open, they release a strong scent that functions to attract bees.
