Castilleja schizotricha is a perennial herbaceous wildflower. It grows no taller than around 15 centimeters, and is thickly covered in light-colored hairs that give the plant a gray or white overall appearance. Its woolly inflorescence consists of layered dusty red or pink bracts. Pouched, dull reddish flowers emerge from between these bracts.
