About Castianeira longipalpa (Hentz, 1847)

Castianeira longipalpa is a species of ant-mimicking spider belonging to the family Corinnidae. Individuals of this species can be dark grey, brown, or black, and have numerous transverse bands across their abdomens. Adult females measure 7 to 9 millimeters in body length, while adult males measure 5.5 to 6 millimeters in body length. This species is made up of fast runners that are typically active during the day. They live on the ground, among fallen leaves, or under rocks and other debris. Their habitats include prairies, deciduous forests, shrubby areas, and wooded sand dunes. Castianeira longipalpa is the most geographically widespread member of the genus Castianeira found in the United States and Canada.
