About Carterocephalus silvicola (Meigen, 1829)
Scientific name: Carterocephalus silvicola (Meigen, 1829)
This species has a forewing length of 12 to 13 millimeters. The upper surface of the forewings is light yellow, marked with large brown-black discal spots and small submarginal spots. The hindwings are primarily brown-black, with yellow spots arranged in the same pattern as those on Carterocephalus palaemon, plus an additional spot on the costa. The underside of the wings matches the color and pattern of the upper side. Females have slightly larger spots, a dark basal region, and a dark outer edge.
Mature caterpillars are grass green, with pale dorsal and lateral dorsal lines, and reach a maximum length of around 25 millimeters. Before entering hibernation, caterpillars change color to gray-yellow. This species overwinters in the form of fully developed caterpillars. The pupa is pale yellow with vertical brown stripes.
