About Carpomya wiedemanni (Meigen, 1826)
This species was originally described as Goniglossum wiedemanni, and its current accepted scientific name is Carpomya wiedemanni (Meigen, 1826). Males of this fruit fly species reach a body length of 3.5โ5.1 millimetres (0.14โ0.20 in), while females reach a body length of 4.5โ5.5 millimetres (0.18โ0.22 in). Male wing lengths range from 2.8โ3.8 millimetres (0.11โ0.15 in), and female wing lengths range from 3.6โ4.5 millimetres (0.14โ0.18 in). These fruit flies have an elongated head and a long proboscis. The thorax is yellowish with dark brown markings. The scutellum usually has three isolated black spots. The abdomen ranges in color from yellow to reddish-brown, and has no black bands. In males, the margins of tergites 2โ4 are golden-yellow; in females, the margins of tergites 2โ5 are golden-yellow. The last tergite is bare and shiny. The wings are hyaline with brown bands. This species is found in Austria, Belgium, the British Isles, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, and the Near East.
